Community Gardens Project

A whole community has remembered their ancestral gardening wisdom with a touch of Biodynamics. Guided by the Asociación Finca Sagrada, families in Tumianuma are reviving home-based food production through community-supported gardens that blend traditional Andean knowledge with regenerative techniques like biodynamics and living-soil practices. These gardens not only enhance household nutrition but also strengthen local resilience and food sovereignty. By training residents in seed-saving, crop diversification, and organic pest management, the initiative empowers people to reclaim control over what they eat, while fostering a renewed cultural pride in their agricultural heritage. This grounded, community-led approach is proving that food sovereignty begins in the backyard.

A Farmer's Love

A Farmer’s Love by Walter Moora is a heartfelt tribute to rural life, sustainable agriculture, and the deep connection between people and the land. Through lyrical prose and personal reflection, Moora weaves together stories of family, tradition, and ecological wisdom drawn from generations of farming in the Andean region of Ecuador. The book celebrates the quiet dignity of agricultural work, the rhythms of the seasons, and the love that grows not only in the soil but also within communities rooted in reciprocity and respect for nature. More than a memoir, A Farmer’s Love is an invitation to rediscover the values of care, patience, and stewardship in an increasingly disconnected world.

Biodynamics Farming:
Learning and Teaching

Walter's biodynamic agriculture courses offer a unique blend of ecological practice, ancestral wisdom and Anthroposophic insights, emphasizing not just how to farm, but how to listen—to the land, the seasons, and the subtle rhythms of the cosmos. His most recent workshop, held in October 2024, invited participants to experience agriculture as a sacred conversation between Earth and sky, where compost preparations, planting calendars, and soil care become acts of reverence rather than mere technical steps. Following the passing of Susan Davis —Walter's partner— the 2025 edition was lovingly set aside, as the community honored a season of pause and reflection. Walter now envisions returning to these teachings in 2026, rekindling the circle with renewed purpose, and continuing to nurture a form of farming that sees the soil not just as a resource, but as a living, breathing partner in a cosmic dance.

Finca Sagrada Association and its role in Vilcabamba

The Asociación Finca Sagrada, in direct collaboration with Arbol Co(n) Razón, stewards a reforestation initiative on the sacred mountain Kuntur Wachana, working to restore native forests and protect vital watersheds. The association also directly manages the community garden project in Tumianuma, empowering local families to reclaim food sovereignty through regenerative growing practices. Beyond these core initiatives, Asociación Finca Sagrada serves as a legal and organizational anchor for emerging social and environmental projects throughout Vilcabamba, offering its formal personería jurídica to grassroots efforts that align with its mission of ecological healing, cultural resilience, and community-led transformation.

The Piscobamba River Watershed Regenerative Bioregion

A vibrant circle of changemakers—Ecuadorians and internationals—is on the verge of launching the new Bioregion initiative in Vilcabamba, rooted in the conviction that bioregional stewardship is one of the most powerful ways to transform the world. This collaborative effort weaves together permaculture design, community-led governance, local currencies, and regenerative land practices to cultivate a living model of resilience, reciprocity, and ecological belonging. By defining their work within the natural boundaries of the watershed and respecting the cultural and ecological uniqueness of southern Ecuador, this group is fostering a shift from extraction to regeneration—from global dependency to local abundance.

Ainachay, the
magic continues

Nestled beside Finca Sagrada, Ainachay is a four-hectare parcel of land poised to become a sanctuary for contemplation, learning, and regenerative practice. Walter envisions this space as a center for Anthroposophical thought—where the spiritual insights of Rudolf Steiner meet the living wisdom of Andean ancestral traditions. Here, workshops will explore the inner dimensions of agriculture, education, and social renewal, while biodynamic farming classes will invite participants to cultivate not only the soil but also their own inner connection to cosmic and earthly rhythms. More than a teaching venue, Ainachay aims to be a living bridge between esoteric Western philosophy and indigenous cosmovision, fostering dialogue, co-creation, and a deeper sense of reverence for the land and the unseen forces that sustain it.
