Anaichay Community Farm

Anaichay is "Gratitude" in Kichwa

Our Inspiration

Our inspiration is the indigenous saying of the Americas that “neither the people of the North nor the South are safe until the Eagle and the Condor fly as one.”

Anaichey is a community birthed in gratitude where people can reconnect to the sacredness of the Earth, community and our own being...

...where the Earth has rights equal to human beings...

...as the Eagle and the Condor fly as one...

...over a self-sustaining community.

Our Mission

We will create a biodynamic learning center for Ecuador and Latin America. We have many years of practice, on our neighboring property and partner Finca Sagrada. In the past we have given biodynamic workshops and ran a successful volunteer program.

We will be a diverse community, creating opportunities for those needing to earn income and provide space for those who are looking to retire and still live meaningful lives.

We will be a community where visitors can live and visit and reconnect to self, community and the earth.

We will create a volunteer program that teaches living skills based around Biodynamic farming.

We will build facilities that can support small gatherings, conferences and workshops.

We will be a model for new ways to steward the land.

The land

The land includes 3.75h (9 acres) of good irrigated farmland and a sacred mountain of some 270hectares which is being reforested. We are situated in the mountains of southern Ecuador, close to Vilcabamba, breathtakingly beautiful and a little isolated. We are in a valley, bounded by the Piscabamba river and the sacred mountain Kuntur Wachana at our backs. Designated an ancient sacred site by the Kogi of northern Colombia.

Our guidance comes from the work of Rudolf Steiner

  • Members of the Anaichay community should have a deep interest in the teachings of Rudolf Steiner and the practical applications arising out of his teachings, such as Biodynamic farming, Waldorf Education, and Eurythmy.

  • The community will be based on Rudolf Steiner's Threefold Social Order.

  • They should have a love for living on the land and being as self-sufficient as possible.

  • Have an interest in Indigenous wisdom.

  • Being bi-lingual would be helpful but not necessary.

Practical aspects

The land is bought and we have a team of five, ready to start. Both Ecuadorians and foreigners, all bilingual.

Walter Moora, the owner of the land, has lived in Ecuador for twenty years. He and his late wife, Susan Davis founded Finca Sagrada and still has close ties to the community.

We envision a community that has:

Working members who have skills that are needed by the community. Their livelihood will be generated by the programmes provided by the farm. They would manage the day to day running of the community.

Members who are ready to retire but still wish to live productive lives and follow their dream. They have financial resources but still want to be in service.

People who support Anaichay and the reforestation program can invest. They will receive tokens or NFTs which will represent ownership.

Ecuador is very affordable. We lack many of the legal restrictions that the United States and Europe have. If you are thinking of relocating to a saner, safer place you might consider Anaichay.

We have a large expat community nearby in Vilcabamba and enjoy great restaurants and other amenities such as good health care, internet etc. all at much more affordable prices. For more information about our area you can Google Vilcabamba, Ecuador

We envision Anaichay, not as isolated, but nestled within the Piscobamba River watershed community. We have the potential to be one of many islands of light all around the world.

Finances

We have a more complete budget which we can share with you, if interested.

A quick summary. We estimate that to build the community center, kitchen volunteer housing, some guest housing and other development costs will be between $250,000 and $350,000

Most of this can be covered by inviting five or more community members to join at a cost of $50,000 each.

These members could then build their own houses at between $50,000 and $100,000 depending on their needs. If a person's needs are not great, such as cluster housing or sharing facilities, housing could be much cheaper.

We feel that this is very affordable compared to the costs of housing and living in other developed countries. A person can live quite comfortably for $2,000 per month or less

Especially at the development stage there will be a monthly fee to pay expenses such as taxes, maintenance, a gardener and social media person. If there are four paying members the cost could be about $500 per month. Members share the cost of maintaining Anaichay.

It is expected that after a year or two the community will be self-sufficient. Income will be generated from workshops, volunteer programs and the visitor program. We will also have working community members who do not have financial resources. They will be essential to the working of the community and projects managed by them will create income for the community.

As we will live in brotherhood in the economic realm there can be many ways in which we share resources. The descriptions act as a guideline for expectations.

Ownership Model

It is the indigenous belief and our dream that the land belongs to itself. Yet most people cannot simply donate their hard-earned savings to a good cause and walk away with nothing. We need a structure that lets people contribute meaningfully and have their contribution recognized, while ensuring the land itself is protected from being sold or speculated on.

Modern technology and thoughtful legal structure together let us bridge this. Here is how it works.

The land and buildings are held by a Limited Liability Company (LLC) formed in the United States, in the state of Wyoming. The LLC is the legal owner of the assets.

The LLC, in turn, is held by an irrevocable trust called the Earth Trust. The Earth Trust's primary beneficiary is the Earth itself. This means the land cannot be sold for development, cannot be speculated on, and cannot be redirected away from its purpose. The trust is permanent. What the trust holds, the trust holds for as long as the land exists.

Members and contributors to Anaichay become members of the LLC. Their contributions — whether financial, in the form of land or labor, or through building their own homes on the land — are recognized through membership units in the LLC. These membership units can be represented digitally as tokens, which document each person's participation in a transparent, traceable way. The tokens are not currency. They are records of belonging and contribution.

For specific commitments — such as endowing a teacher's residence, a workshop space, or building a home on a designated site — we use NFTs (non-fungible tokens) that represent the specific covenant between the contributor and the project. Each NFT records what was committed, what rights it grants, and how long those rights last. The terms are documented permanently.

Governance of Anaichay belongs to those who are actively present and contributing. Members who live on the land, work in its programs, and participate in its decisions hold the real authority over what the community becomes. This is the heart of the model — the people doing the work are the ones shaping it.

This structure is the closest available approximation, within current law, to what we actually believe: that the land belongs to itself, that those who tend it are stewards rather than owners, and that what is dedicated should remain dedicated for the generations that follow.

Our Needs

Individuals or families who are looking for a land based community that lives out of the inspiration of Anthroposophy. The perfect place to retire yet be able to share life skills and knowledge and be in service to humanity and mother earth. Maybe you have skills and knowledge that you would like to share through workshops or other means such as working in the gardens..

We are looking for an experienced Biodynamic farmer who is bi-lingual and likes to teach and work with volunteers. The founder, Walter Moora has over fifty years of Biodynamic farming but is more interested in teaching than hands-on work.

As we develop there will be more opportunities for being involved. For instance, we will need a volunteer and visitor coordinator. Someone to run workshops and cook.

Anaichay has close ties to Finca Sagrada, which borders Anaichay land. We are also involved with the Tumianuma women's garden project and experimental fruit tree project. In addition we are leaders in the Piscabamba River Bioregion project.

All the above projects can be found on our website Spiritland.blog

Our neighbors website is Fincasagrada.com Much of their focus is on creating the perfect place to raise children.

You can download Walter Moora’s book A Farmers Love for free at Spiritland.blog/book or buy it on Amazon
