Although my Spanish is getting better, often I put studying Spanish on the back burner. Therefore I decided to go to Spanish immersion school in Cuenca for two weeks. Every morning I receive four hours of classes plus I live with a Spanish family. It's a kind of a difficult double whammy for me. Even in English I don’t much enjoy sitting around shooting the breeze for hours at a time. Now I am forced to speak Spanish for four hours. I am doing pretty well which is exciting. I could even understand my Spanish speaking guide on my Cajas trip.
This weekend was a national holiday so I had three free days. Yesterday I went to the Caja mountains. I really struggle in cities so it was a blessing to be outside in nature. The Cajas are very high, we walked for over three hours at about 3,500 meters (11,500ft) . We had to take lots of rest.
I was so moved by the Cajas. Being high the vegetation is rather sparse. Yet everywhere there were tiny little flowers. Yellows, reds, pinks, blues and even greys. They were so pure,so innocent. So different from the flashy passionate flowers that can be found in the jungle. Here there were little flowers everywhere looking up into the heavens, so different from us, with all our needs and passions. It reminded me that the etheric world is still pure.
Lately mother earth has been so fierce, with her draughts, floods, volcanoes and earthquakes. Yet here she was in all her calmness, beauty and innocence.
Through the flowers I saw Sophia, in all her beauty. When I asked my guide, he confirmed that this was a feminine landscape. The Cañari, the indigenous of this area were a matriarchal nation and worshiped the moon.
